The bizarre Oct. 28, 2022 attack on Paul Pelosi, 82, is still an unfolding story as there are recent events that connect to the attack. Due to the attack, Pelosi was left with severe head injuries and has been recovering. The attacker, David DePape, was reportedly someone the Pelosi family were familiar with, some said even a friend. Depape allegedly broke into the Pelosi home around 2 am and demanded to know where Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi was. At the time, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott stated, “The suspect pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it.”
DePape has pleaded not guilty to various state and federal charges.
This week police body cam footage was released showing in a clip around 90 seconds that shows “wrest the tool [hammer] from Paul Pelosi and lunge toward him,” NPR reports. The video was released after San Francisco Superior court Judge Stephen M. Murphy ruled there was no reason to keep the footage secret, especially after prosecutors played it in open court last month.
Nancy Pelosi was reportedly so shaken after the incident she recently had the house cleaned with an exorcism. business Insider reported that Pelosi’s daughter stated that Pelosi had Catholic priests perform the exorcism. Stephen Rossetti, the exorcist for the Archdiocese of Washington, stated that the exorcism of a place is “specifically used when there is a demonic infestation.”
Now, on Friday, DePape made statements during a phone interview with a radio station. In the interview, DePape does not apologize for the attack, but does apologize for not taking out more of the people at which his hatred is focused, and the fact that he got caught. “I want to apologize to everyone. I messed up. What I did was really bad. I’m so sorry I didn’t get more of them. It’s my own fault. No one else is to blame. I should have come better prepared,” he added.
Such statements are interesting considering DePape’s not guilty plea.

The man who broke into then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s home and attacked her husband with a hammer said he was sorry he “didn’t get more of them.”
David DePape, 42, made the chilling remarks in a recorded phone interview with local California station KTVU after the release of police body camera footage on Friday. “Liberty isn’t dying, it’s being killed systematically and deliberately,” DePape said. “The “people killing it have names and addresses, so I got their names and addresses so I could pay them a little visit … have a heart-to-heart chat about their bad behavior.”
“I want to apologize to everyone. I messed up. What I did was really bad. I’m so sorry I didn’t get more of them. It’s my own fault. No one else is to blame. I should have come better prepared,” he added. His message to listeners: “You’re welcome.”
In the rambling diatribe, DePape said he had “a website of over 300 pages” and that he spent “all my time exposing government corruption online” “I’m in the process of trying to set up a new website out of the reach of tyrannically global racists and their internet censors,” he said.

DePape’s call on Friday came shortly after the San Francisco Superior Court ordered the release of audio and video footage of the attack that left 82-year-old Pelosi with a fractured skull. The video shows police arriving at the Pelosi home to see both DePape and Pelosi both holding onto opposite ends of a hammer. When the police ask what is going on, DePape responds: “Everything is good.” Police tell the men to “drop the hammer.” DePape says “no” and grabs control of the hammer from Pelosi, savagely attacking him. Officers then storm forward and tackle the attacker.
DePape is scheduled to appear in court on February 23.
